Working with the founder, I helped establish the roadmap and bring an MVP to market. This included collecting and articulating existing market research, creating a scope from insights gained and creating a low-fidelity prototype that could be seeded to industry leaders for feedback.

The research and discussions with business leaders suggested that Otto would be best suited to consumers who were money-rich, time-poor. They valued good design and weren't shy of a healthy price tag, but fell short when it came to dedicating time and effort into finding quality product.

Personalisation was the cornerstone of the experience. To serve relevant suggestions, we took the user through an onboarding flow to gather some key information like what room they planned on furnishing, their budget, their aesthetic taste and what other brands they were familiar with. This gave us a good overview of which kind of products they might like whilst not tiring the users with too many steps.

The home screen served as a hub for discovery. Users who went through the onboarding are served their tailored recommendations. Other products based on properties like new, popular and trending are served to those users who haven't set up their first room.

We also facilitated discovery by surfacing product categories, brands that may be of interest, a near you feature and our curator hub titled 'residents'.

Residents is a showcase of leading tastemakers and their homes, including the products they choose to inhabit them. Users can see the brands behind the inspiration and how they are using the product in their space.

Users are encouraged to curate their rooms before making any purchases by including an add to room call to action on all product detail pages. On many items, we were able to locate the nearest vendor and direct users to see the product in the flesh.

Since we had a catalogue of over 200 vendors, there are plenty of options to choose from. Saving product to a room allowed us to notify users of price changes, stock availability and also fed into the recommendation engine. Once ready to commit, we utilised Apple Pay as the default payment method.

Near You showcases local retailers in your area, from big name brands to smaller boutiques and even antique shops. We had stock feeds from many retailers so were able to create a list of up to date brands and products stocked, along with other useful information like directions, opening hours and external links.
